October 5 Event Report Photos and Video Our first indoor session resulted in 20 pilots and 50 or so models. The pits were full of all types of models. Hobby Lobby helicopters, Reno Racers and slowflyers were well represented. GWS Pico Sticks, Tigermoths, Slowsticks, J3 Cubs and Beavers were flying all evening. Many folks had bashed the heck out of the GWS kits with all kinds of mods. The Beaver was a real stretch in there due to the speed. A few pilots learned that flying a Wingo indoors is not as easy as it seemed. Similarly, GSW Zeros do real nice back flips off of the netting before hitting the ground. Steve Poretz from Maryland flew a really cool little RFFS sub oz. biplane and a Piccolo. Jim Athon from Oxford, AL also brought a few sub oz. models and a cool F100 fighter jet powered by a GWS EDF 50. Glenn Delconte's GWS EDF Learjet took to the skies successfully after a few challenging "short flights". The Todd's Model Gym E got stuck in the net hanging by the prop for a few minutes but was knocked out ok. Andy's IFO is proof that you can crash a plane numerous times in an evening and keep on flying. The drag races were a success. We had about 8 pilots participate in our first competition. The race consisted of two planes on a starting line and they raced to a helium balloon. The goal was to hit or pop the balloon first. If you hit the string you were guaranteed a crash. The building was quite hot inside for the first hour or so but eventually cooled down. I would expect our next session to be much more comfortable as it is in late October. Some folks seemed to have issues with the GWS receivers. I highly recommend that pilots take a strong look at FMA's new M5 Rx. It weighs about 1/10 oz. more than the single conversion stuff but it is full range. Eric Brown of Peachtree City was the lucky winner of the Hobby Lobby Rare Bear. Here's a picture of Eric with his new kit.
