December 5 Event Report

Photos and Video Below

We had a great turnout at our new indoor facility this week.  A lot of new pilots participated as well as a great group of spectators attended (about 40) to see what flying inside is all about.  I think everyone really enjoyed the HUGE new building we are flying in.  While is was rather cool, it sure beat flying outside yesterday.

Ernie Schlumberger had a great success with his new 24 inch span flying wing!  I believe he said the all up weight is 3 oz.  The wing is powered with the new GWS geared N20 on a two cell 145 Kokam Lithium Polymer pack.  Ernie plans to kit this little wing and will be bringing them to the December 27 event, so bring some cash and support Ernie's hobby fund :-)

Dave Mason showed up with his afterburner powered Direct 280 from Hobby Lobby. Rufus Carswell finally got some airtime with his little scratch built design.

Glen and crew from The Hobby Shop arrived with some nice models to fly as well as the new GWS P-51 kits.  They tried to fly the Hobby Lobby Miss 2 inside....it flies well....but it's a little large for indoors. Glen was nice enough to bring some gift certificates for prizes.  However, I did not get my act together to organize some events.  We will do something with them at the December 27 event.

Jim Athon from Alabama got a few flights with his new fanfold foam jet.

Matt Klos' Widget flew all night without any major mishaps.  Rick Vaughn also got some airtime with his Widget.  Rumor has it that he plans to take it to the NATS for Class B comps next year!

The crowds were treated to a spectacular display of indoor aerobatics and crashes with a Radical RC Edge 540.  This one takes the most crashes award this week.

John Snider brought an interesting new model...but it does not fly too well.  (see pic below)

Finances:  We lost about $20 last night but it is ok because we made about $35 at the last indoor session.  I have a feeling we will do well at the December 27 session.

What's the plan for the December 27 event?

It think it's going to be great!  I will probably arrive earlier than 3 pm to open up.  We will have a ton of flying time on this date so don't miss out!  Remember to bring a space heater at the December 27 session in case it is cold in the building.  The one heater that I brought really worked to warm the area around it.  If we had a few more down the pit area it would make things a little more comfortable.

We will probably have a limbo contest with paper streamers and possibly some streamer combat.  If someone can volunteer (Mark Murdock) to get the streamers and limbo uprights let me know.  Additionally, I think we will have a pilots choice award for best plane.  No particular criteria...you guys just vote on the plane you like the best.  The winners of these events will win the Hobby Shop Gift certificates.

Until the 27th....
